A financial professional with broad experience, Joseph “Joe” Petry has been advising clients in his consulting practice since 2015. Previously, Joseph Petry taught economics at a distinguished university, where he excelled at translating complex subjects into relatable, experiential learning. He used instructional techniques like flipped classrooms to engage students.

When you “flip the classroom,” students watch a lecture online before their scheduled class time, which frees up in-person class time to engage in hands-on experiments. As students become increasingly connected to technology, a flipped classroom provides more active learning opportunities and increases the frequency of both student-to-teacher and student-to-student interaction. Students do not waste valuable class time passively listening to lectures but instead can explore subjects in more depth.

Flipped classrooms accommodate a more comprehensive range of learning styles, allowing more time to review materials for those who need them. For example, students can slow down the pace and rewatch videos or redo tutorials as many times as necessary to master a concept. Additionally, because students must show up to class prepared, they learn greater responsibility and accountability for their learning.
